We left the Lake District behind and headed north to Scotland this morning.  This was one of our longest driving days and we took time for a number of rest stops along the way to West Talbert where we stayed for the night.

The first stop was at Ruthwell Church to look at an 8th century Anglo Saxon cross made in a style that was unusual for the time period.  We then visited Caerlaverock Castle, a 13th century triangular fortress - the only one of its type in Britain.

Next was a visit to Hill House, a Charles Rennie Macintosh designed home completed in 1904. The house was restored in 2019 and has been covered for six years to protect it from the weather and allow time for other repairs to be completed.
