This morning we took a ferry to Islay (pronounced Eye La) Island.  The two hour crossing gave us views of Islay and Jura Island.

After visiting the Round Church in Bowmore we visited the Islay Woollen Mill, a small business that produces tweed and plaid clothing.  Their clients include the movie industry and they proudly note they produced the tartan design used in the movie Braveheart. Then we checked into Islay House where we are staying for the next two nights.

In the evening we drove out to the Oa Peninsula (Mull).  There we followed a path to the ocean to look at a memorial to WW I U.S. service members who died after their ship was torpedoed by a Uboat in 1918.  The path looped along cliffs and farm lands back to our car. The evening was clear enough that we could see into Northern Ireland.  We also saw some highland cows noted for the distinctive fringe over their eyes.
